"The Hobbit" Read-Through!
The Ringfolk Fellowship embarks on another adventure!
Greetings, fellowship. There’s been some positive feedback and excitement regarding our read-through of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, and I wanted to provide you with a schedule for our journey. In thinking through when we should start, I was led to three truths:
Fall is the best season to partake in anything Tolkien
With the election season ending, we sure could use a wholesome distraction—a detour, if you will, to carry us to (somewhat) normalcy again.
The Ringfolk fellowship has grown to the point where I feel a read-through would do us good.
Therefore, I propose we start our read-through of The Hobbit Monday, November 11th, with weekly recap posts coming every Sunday. Here is the schedule accordingly:
The Hobbit Read-Through Schedule
Monday, November 11 - Saturday, November 16: Our journey begins! Read: Note on the text, any introduction your copy may provide, and Chapters 1-2
Sunday, November 17: Recap post delivered on the intro and Chapters 1-2

Sunday, November 24: Recap post delivered on Chapters 3-5

Yes, that final week will be the most chapters we’ll read, but the final two are quite short.
We’ll therefore finish The Hobbit before Christmas!
Lastly, I’ve removed the archived paywall for this article, so you can always reference it if needed!

I usually don't attempt group read-throughs, but this seems like a fun endeavor! Also well spaced out (rushing through the Hobbit would be ironic) so I'm excited to give it a go. Here's to future discussion!
Excited to get started! I re-read the book earlier this year too, so it's still pretty fresh.
